Break N’ Bread 2010

Every October the Birmingham Originals throw a huge party at Pepper Place called “Break ‘n Bread“. Many of the restaurants on BirminghamMenus participate in this event. This year the event will be held on Sunday, October 10 from 1-5 p.m. at Pepper Place Market located at 2829 Second Avenue South in Birmingham, AL. A portion of ticket sales from this year’s annual Break ‘n Bread will benefit Children’s Hospital and the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Birmingham Originals is a group of over 30 passionately independent restaurant owners and associates who are committed to increasing awareness of our unique regional flavors.

With food from dozens of your favorite local restaurants, wine and beer selections, live musical entertainment including Cleve Eaton w/ The Alabama All Stars, and The Erin Mitchell Project, local market vendors, and a children’s area with pumpkin decorating and other activities, there really is something for everyone. This is the premiere wine and food event of the year in Alabama.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $12 for those 12-20 years of age and children under 12 are free. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $75 and allow access to tented seating and a special selection of wines.

Alabama Harvest Fest

Alabama Harvest Feast will take place on October 3rd and is a benefit dinner that supports the Alabama Fishing Community. Featuring Alabama’s best Chefs, Henry Panion’s Gospel Choir, The Greta Gaines band, great wine, a short film by Southern Foodways Alliance on Bayou La Batre’s fishing community and a family style Southern Supper over looking Lake Tadpole.

The special beneift is hosted in collaboration by Garden & Gun Club, Hot and Hot Fish Club, Notable Alabama Chefs, Natalie Chanin and the Southern Foodways Alliance.

There are ONLY 160 tickets available and they will sell out quickly. Do not get left out.

Hot & Hot Fish Club Cookbook up for People’s Choice Award

The Hot & Hot Fish Club is up for a “People’s Choice” Cookbook Award by the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP). IACP members and the general public may vote online for their favorite finalist by April 5. Click here to cast your vote!

The Hot and Hot Fish Club Cookbook, A Celebration of Food, Family and Traditions (Running Press, October 2009, $35) by Chris and Idie Hastings, has also been selected by the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) as a finalist in the annual Cookbook Awards’ Food Photography and Styling category. The winners of both awards will also be announced Thursday, April 22 at the organization’s annual conference. Congratulations Hot and Hot Fish Club and Good Luck!

Break ‘n Bread 2009

Every October the Birmingham Originals throw a huge party at Pepper Place called “Break ‘n Bread“. Many of the restaurants on BirminghamMenus participate in this event, and we truly believe that it is the best food and wine event in Birmingham. This year Break ‘n Bread is on Sunday, October 11th from 1pm to 5pm. Tickets for general admission are $30 and VIP is $75. If you buy online in advance, you can save $5 on general admission tickets, and $10 on VIP tickets.

What makes Break ‘n Bread so great? First of all, the participating restaurants are among the very best in Birmingham. Each restaurant prepares a special dish (thousands of them, to be exact), and whether it’s scallops from Ocean, The Bright Star’s famous gumbo, or Guillermo serving Mojo Pork from Sol Y Luna, the variety and assortment of dishes is incredible (Click here for a list of menu items). The wine selection from Birmingham’s top wine purveyors is the perfect pairing for these amazing dishes. Live music and children’s activities make this open-air event full of energy. There is no better way to spend a beautiful October Sunday afternoon in Birmingham.

Online Stores Up and Running

Over a year ago, Hot and Hot Fish Club asked us to build them an online store to showcase their food and merchandise. It is available at www.hotandhotstore.com, and it’s stocked full of a wide array of items found at Hot and Hot. More recently, several other restaurants have realized the importance of taking their inventory online, and have come to us asking to build them stores as well. Everything Iz (formerly Cafe Iz) had us build an online storefront with many delicious items, and just this week we posted Mary’s Gloria Candies, a new business venture from Anthony and Monica Krontiras at Nabeel’s. Below are some screenshots of our stores, and descriptions of what you can find there. Next time you are looking to get a unique gift and support local restaurants, head over to these stores and make your purchase from the comfort of your home computer. Also, keep an eye out for the Continental Bakery Store, set to open next month.

Hot and Hot Fish Club Store

In 2007 we opened the Hot and Hot Fish Club Store. At the Hot and Hot store, you can order a wide range of items, from the signature pottery used at the restaurant to Hot and Hot coffee, and even treats for your four legged Hot and Hot fan! Most importantly, in October chef/owner Chris Hastings will be releasing his first cookbook, and preorders can be taken online. If you order online, your cookbook will come autographed by authors Chris and Idie Hastings.

Everything Iz

The second online store built by BirminghamMenus was for the Iz Good Stuff division of Everything Iz. On the Iz Good Stuff store you can buy Iz gear, like hats and t-shirts, decadent desserts like their Mini Mousse Bombs (Jen and my favorite), Italian Cream Cake and Lemon Squares. Finally, you can always get Iz Good Stuff Granola on the Iz store, and even have it mailed to your friends. Iz Granola has made quite a name for itself in grocery stores around Birmingham. If you haven’t tried it, it’s incredible! Keep and eye out.

Mary’s Gloria Candies

Several months ago our good friends at Nabeel’s called and asked us if we would help them get a new business venture off the ground. For years, they have been making delicious candy at the store for friends and family around the US. The word spread, and soon friends of friends were calling to try and get Nabeel’s candy shipped to them! This “secret” is now out, and people everywhere in the US can now enjoy what a lucky few have know for years… Nabeel’s makes fantastic divinity, pecan brittle, pralines and more!

The ability to help our restaurant clients get their inventory online is the latest service offered by BirminghamMenus. Stay tuned, we’ll be putting more stores online in the near future!
