The Greek language doesn’t have a word for “stranger”.  A friend once said “there are no strangers at The Fish Market” and this is exactly the atmosphere I hoped to create here.  In the more than 40 years that I’ve been in the restaurant business in Birmingham, I’ve discovered that Greek hospitality isn’t so far removed from Southern hospitality.  And so, I welcome you to The Fish Market on Southside. 

I have always wanted to give my customers a nice, comfortable place to visit and eat.  We go to great lengths to bring you a variety of the finest seafood from the Gulf and waters as close to home as possible.  We specialize in day-boat catches of fish, making sure you’ll have the freshest that is available.  Our shrimp comes straight from the Gulf.  We do business with the large suppliers as well as support local fishermen. The prices at The Fish Market still make eating here a delicious value.  I can continue to say that we offer “the only inexpensive, fresh seafood in 

Birmingham”. 

I have been in the restaurant business since I came here from Greece in 1969.  I’ve watched my customers children grow up and become customers themselves with the next generation in hand.  All of you help make The Fish Market what it is.  

It is my sincere wish that you will enjoy our restaurant, with its comfortable and casual dine-in experience, expanded fresh fish and market offerings, fine foods to go as well as our exciting new catering menu.  I grew up hearing “Kalos orisate, kali orexi”. And so I say to you, “Welcome, Bring your healthy appetite”.
